Experience Onboard Ship

Good day everyone. So today i would like to share my experinces onboard ship. My first ship was MT Eagle Phoenix and second ship was MT Paramount Hatteras. I was so nervous before i went onboard. Before i went onboard, i did my medical examination in KL. As i step in my ship, the environment was totally different and kinda nervous too. Then i was introduced to the captain and everyone was so friendly to me. Then they asked me to sleep as the time was around 1am. The next morning, the Ab woke me up and directed me to wore proper PPE before i go to deck. That time the ship was engaged in STS operation in Tanjung Pelepas,Johor. After that i slowly start to learn all about deck and also navigations. At first, I was very confused as there are so many equipments on bridge. I learned alot in my first ship because of so many incidents such as collision, fire on poop deck and oil spill on deck. As a cadet, i learned that teamwork is a must in undergoing all this situations. I also learn about cargo operations, sts operations, SBM and many more. As a cadet, i had never hesitate in asking questions to my colleagues onboard.I went for my first shoreleave after 5 months onboard. This is because my ship was anchored 2 months in Australia. In shorealeave, i really enjoyed myself as i saw many australian girls on shopping malls.

Leadership style that i learned onboard was planning and organising. For example, my chief mate will plan accordingly before arrival port of loading and discharge. He will prepare the watchkeeping hours for all the crews for cargo operation. He will also prepare all the documents that related to cargo operations so that he does not need to rush at the last minute. Moreover, my chief mate also plan accordingly after been consulted with captain because captain has more knowledge and experience than chief mate. For organising, my captain plays the important role of all crews onboard. He does not give up easily in doing any jobs. He will try his level best in completing particular jobs, taking considerations of safety mainly. My captain will organise accordingly, like he is the one who going to receive any news from company and he will deliver that news to all crews perfectly during safety moments. As a conclusion, I hope that i will have all those leadership skills when i am going onboard ship to become the most successful person.

Leadership skills

Good day everyone. So today i would like to write a blog on leadership skills which is "PLANNING". Planning is a key part of every success. I meet startup leaders almost every day who are implementing tactics in the absence of an overall strategy. I continue to see leaders compromise their success and the success of the organizations they lead. I have identified 5 pillars for success. Without these 5 pillars, we greatly compromise our results and even set up our organizations for failure. Even leaving out one of these pillars will compromise your success by at least 50%.

Effective planning and organization require the ability to create and use logical, systematic processes to achieve goals. Those who are skilled at this competency can visualize the steps needed to reach a goal and naturally organize the process, modifying as necessary. Tomorrow’s leaders will use planning and organization to cast a broad net around what might happen, and to create a plan that is robust enough to respond to the unknown. As you practice planning and organization, you will see that that creating workable plans helps keep team members accountable and projects on track.

The reason why planning is an important skill for leaders is that proper planning gives leaders the confidence to commit. Commit what you ask? Resources is the answer. In broad terms when we consider any business, in any industry, there are four core resources required for it to function ; people, money or capital which has to be budgeted and allocated, materials in all shapes and forms that are used to support converting inputs into outputs e.g. computers, and last is time which is finite.

Lack of attention to planning means leaders risk making decisions that will impact the allocation and use of these valuable resources. The ‘knock on’ effects from poor resource allocation resulting from poor planning are far reaching and considerable.

Ultimately poor planning impacts on the nature and quality of customer service provided because the resources are not available to meet existing customer needs or respond quickly to ever changing customer needs.

Far too much attention is placed on ensuring whatever plan template is being used is completed correctly, yet a correctly completed template that contains a poorly constructed plan is not likely to instil confidence. In planning the emphasis must be on thinking critically about how to best allocate available resources so as to maximise returns. As a leader, only when you are satisfied there has been adequate quality thinking undertaken should you commit your plan to paper because you will have built the confidence to commit your organisation’s valuable resources?

Eiffel Tower, France

When Gustave Eiffel’s company built Paris’ most recognizable monument for the 1889 World’s Fair, many regarded the massive iron structure with skepticism. Today, the Eiffel Tower, which continues to serve an important role in television and radio broadcasts, is considered an architectural wonder and attracts more visitors than any other paid tourist attraction in the world.

In 1889, Paris hosted an Exposition Universelle (World’s Fair) to mark the 100-year anniversary of the French Revolution. More than 100 artists submitted competing plans for a monument to be built on the Champ-de-Mars, located in central Paris, and serve as the exposition’s entrance. The commission was granted to Eiffel et Compagnie, a consulting and construction firm owned by the acclaimed bridge builder, architect and metals expert Alexandre-Gustave Eiffel. While Eiffel himself often receives full credit for the monument that bears his name, it was one of his employees—a structural engineer named Maurice Koechlin—who came up with and fine-tuned the concept. Several years earlier, the pair had collaborated on the Statue of Liberty’s metal armature.

Millions of visitors during and after the World’s Fair marveled at Paris’ newly erected architectural wonder. Not all of the city’s inhabitants were as enthusiastic, however: Many Parisians either feared it was structurally unsound or considered it an eyesore. The novelist Guy de Maupassant, for example, allegedly hated the tower so much that he often ate lunch in the restaurant at its base, the only vantage point from which he could completely avoid glimpsing its looming silhouette.

Colosseum,Italy

Located just east of the Roman Forum, the massive stone amphitheater known as the Colosseum was commissioned around A.D. 70-72 by Emperor Vespasian of the Flavian dynasty as a gift to the Roman people. In A.D. 80, Vespasian’s son Titus opened the Colosseum–officially known as the Flavian Amphitheater–with 100 days of games, including gladiatorial combats and wild animal fights. After four centuries of active use, the magnificent arena fell into neglect, and up until the 18th century it was used as a source of building materials. Though two-thirds of the original Colosseum has been destroyed over time, the amphitheater remains a popular tourist destination, as well as an iconic symbol of Rome and its long, tumultuous history.

Even after the decadent Roman emperor Nero took his own life in A.D. 68, his misrule and excesses fueled a series of civil wars. No fewer than four emperors took the throne in the tumultuous year after Nero’s death; the fourth, Vespasian, would end up ruling for 10 years (A.D. 69-79). The Flavian emperors, as Vespasian and his sons Titus (79-81) and Domitian (81-96) were known, attempted to tone down the excesses of the Roman court, restore Senate authority and promote public welfare. Around 70-72, Vespasian returned to the Roman people the lush land near the center of the city, where Nero had built an enormous palace for himself after a great fire ripped through Rome in A.D. 64. On the site of that Golden Palace, he decreed, would be built a new amphitheater where the public could enjoy gladiatorial combats and other forms of entertainment.

Anfield

Anfield was built in 1884, but got initially rented by Everton FC. The first game of the round at the ground, on 28 September 1884, saw Everton beat Earlstown 5-0.

In 1891, Everton moved out of Anfield after a dispute over the rent, and one year later newly-founded Liverpool moved in. Their first match at Anfield was a 7-1 win over Rotherham.

Anfield underwent several developments in the late 19th and early 20th century, among which in 1895 the construction of a new main stand designed by Archibal Leitch and a decade later the construction of the famous Spion Kop.

The ground remained more or less the same for the next two decades until the Kop got expanded in 1928. Once completed, it could hold about 30,000 fans.
