Experience Onboard Ship

Good day everyone. So today i would like to share my experinces onboard ship. My first ship was MT Eagle Phoenix and second ship was MT Paramount Hatteras. I was so nervous before i went onboard. Before i went onboard, i did my medical examination in KL. As i step in my ship, the environment was totally different and kinda nervous too. Then i was introduced to the captain and everyone was so friendly to me. Then they asked me to sleep as the time was around 1am. The next morning, the Ab woke me up and directed me to wore proper PPE before i go to deck. That time the ship was engaged in STS operation in Tanjung Pelepas,Johor. After that i slowly start to learn all about deck and also navigations. At first, I was very confused as there are so many equipments on bridge. I learned alot in my first ship because of so many incidents such as collision, fire on poop deck and oil spill on deck. As a cadet, i learned that teamwork is a must in undergoing all this situations. I also learn about cargo operations, sts operations, SBM and many more. As a cadet, i had never hesitate in asking questions to my colleagues onboard.I went for my first shoreleave after 5 months onboard. This is because my ship was anchored 2 months in Australia. In shorealeave, i really enjoyed myself as i saw many australian girls on shopping malls.

Leadership style that i learned onboard was planning and organising. For example, my chief mate will plan accordingly before arrival port of loading and discharge. He will prepare the watchkeeping hours for all the crews for cargo operation. He will also prepare all the documents that related to cargo operations so that he does not need to rush at the last minute. Moreover, my chief mate also plan accordingly after been consulted with captain because captain has more knowledge and experience than chief mate. For organising, my captain plays the important role of all crews onboard. He does not give up easily in doing any jobs. He will try his level best in completing particular jobs, taking considerations of safety mainly. My captain will organise accordingly, like he is the one who going to receive any news from company and he will deliver that news to all crews perfectly during safety moments. As a conclusion, I hope that i will have all those leadership skills when i am going onboard ship to become the most successful person.
